Forty Thieves Solitaire is a card game you play by yourself. You use two regular decks (104 cards total). First, you put out forty cards in ten columns of four cards each. These are all face up, so you can see them. The rest of the cards stay in a pile you draw from. Your aim is to move all cards from both decks into eight special piles called foundations. Each foundation starts with an Ace, and you build up by suit until King.
Only the top card in each column can move. You can move it onto another column if the card is one less in number and the same suit. Or you can put it in a foundation if it follows that sequence correctly. If a column becomes empty, you may place any single card there.
You also have a stockpile. You draw one card at a time from it. That drawn card can go either to the tableau (the columns) or to the foundations if it fits. There is also a waste pile where drawn cards go if you don’t move them immediately. You cannot reuse the stock once you finish it. You win when all cards end up in the eight foundation piles.
